Porto Santo Line - FAQs

In this section, our aim is to clear up any doubts which may arise.

In the packages with vehicle, why is the vehicle driver only allowed to enter throught the ship´s car deck?

The reasons why passengers should get out of the vehicle before it boards Lobo Marinho’s car deck are:

a) Safety - to minimize the simultaneous presence of passengers and vehicles moving on the Car-Deck;

b) Time wasted while parking - if all vehicles boarded with all their occupants, the parking area would become overcrowded, making it impossible for the ship´s cargo to board without delays.

Where can I take the ship to Porto Santo?

In Madeira Island the ferry boat "Lobo Marinho" leaves from the south dock of the Harbour of Funchal.

What kind of Fares do you sell?

We sell tickets of various prices to cover different demands. The prices depend mainly on the season, the number of persons travelling and the period that you plan to stay at the destination. 

There are 1st Class and Tourist Class, both with a 50% reduction for children aged 5 to 11. Tourist class costs less for the return trips on a different day (under 24 hours). Can I book?

Porto Santo Line does not do bookings.  All of the tickets bought in the Buy On-Line option are considered sold and are not refundable.

Where can I buy my ticket?

You can buy your ticket at any Porto Santo Line office (including the counters situated near the boarding point), at one of the authorized travel agencies, or you can choose the Buy on-Line option.

Can I change my trip?

Some changes can be made at no any extra cost.  However, a fee may be charged rates in the case of special packages.  Contacts our booking service promptly, as soon as you decide to make any alteration in your passage. Note that any change in your booking can imply that you will have to pay an additional amount.  In most cases, alterations will also imply the issuing of new tickets

How can I pay for my tickets?

At our offices there are various methods of payment:
- Check;
- Credit card;
- ATM;
- Cash;

 

In the Buy Online option, tickets must be paid by credit card.

What vehicles do you transport?

We transport all types of vehicles: from light passenger, combined light goods with passenger, light goods, heavy goods, heavy passenger, motorcycles, motorcycles, 4-wheel ATV, jet ski and bicycles.  They are subdivided into classes, according to the particular characteristics of each vehicle. The transport is charged according to the class of vehicle.

Are there cabins for hire on board?

As our trips take only approximately 2h10 in duration, we do not cater for this service.

What special packages are available?

We have special packages based on combinations of passengers with vehicles, passengers with hotel and passengers with vehicle and hotel.

Can you book the hotel?

Yes.  We can book package trips, including accomodation with a stay at the following hotels:

 

Praia Dourada***, Torre Praia**** e Luamar****.

 

We have combined packages for passengers and hotel and/or passengers, hotel and vehicle. Our packages with hotel, always include the trip, and it cannot be sold separately. To buy your ticket combined with hotel and/or vehicle transport, you should go directly to our offices or buy online.

Are there facilities for disabled passengers?

Yes.  Our ship is appropriately equipped to transport disabled passengers.

What time must I arrive for boarding?

Passengers should arrive for check-in half an hour before the scheduled time of the ship's departure. However, for your comfort, Porto Santo Line advises passengers who travel with vehicles to check in 45 minutes before the ship´s departure time.

Do I need to show any identification document (I.C. passport)?

Yes.  At the time of boarding passengers must present an identity document that shows his/her full name and a photograph (ID card, Passport or Driver's License)

Is there any restriction on the number of seats?

Yes.  The ship's capacity is 1153 passengers.

What happens if I miss the boat?

Your ticket is valid for 90 days.  However, according to the price and season of the year in question, you will have to  pay a fee for a new booking.

What happens if my trip is cancelled?

If your trip is cancelled due to bad weather conditions, you must book your ticket for another chosen date, and its validity will be limited to 90 days.  If it is cancelled for any reason attributed to Porto Santo Line, you may request a refund for your ticket or use it within the 90 day limit period.

What is the advantage of travelling in 1st Class?

The 1st class lounge is situated in a privileged area of the ship, right over the operating station.  It is a more reserved area and it has a superior panoramic view.  Besides this, there is an exclusive bar, a multimedia room and private toilets.  Breakfast or a buffet  are served on all trips.

How long is the trip?

The trip takes 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Is there any discount for children?

Yes.  There is a 50% discount on all prices for Children of up to the age 11.  Tickets for children under 4 years old are free.

Can I travel with my pet?

Yes. You can travel with your Pet. However, in the passengers area the presence of animals of any kind is forbidden . Animals must travel in a specific area reserved for this purpose or, in case you travel with your car, inside the vehicle.

Why do you need to know the names, age and sex of all of the passengers?

With the recent introduction of a Directive on the European Register of Passengers, ferry companies are now required to register their passenger's following details: name, surname, sex and age.
